May the 4th Be With You

Happy Star Wars Day! It’s May 4th, which means it’s time for the puntacular holiday where the fandom can happily say, “May the 4th be with you,” and indulge in all things Star Wars. We hope you’ll enjoy the facts and memes we’ve collected to share with you all on this most sacred of holidays. 😉

FACT 1: George Lucas had originally set out to make a Flash Gordon film, but couldn’t get the rights to do so. Rather than let that get him down, he went on to make his own space saga instead. Thus Star Wars was born! ❤

FACT 2: Various animal sounds were used and altered to achieve various sounds for the films. The call of an elephant combined with the sound of a car driving on wet cement was used for the TIE fighter sound effect. Chewbacca’s iconic growl was thanks to the collective noises of bears, walruses, lions, badgers and sick animals. The rumbling sound of a cat purring was digitally altered to specially create the unique sound made when Kylo Ren uses the force in The Force Awakens.

FACT 3: An avid-animal lover, Mark Hamill was disappointed to see that they had added in the bit where Luke slices off the arm of the wampa in The Empire Strikes Back, saying that Luke would have scared the wampa off with his lightsaber rather than hack its limb off because the wampa was not evil, and was only attacking his character due to hunger.

FACT 4: The Jawas actually are speaking in the African Zulu language, but it was electronically sped up in post-prodcution to achieve the sound you hear on film.

FACT 5: Yoda’s number of toes will be different depending on which film you’re watching. In Revenge of the Sith, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi you can see that Yoda has four toes, but in The Phantom Menace his feet only have three toes.
