Netflix’s animated multi-genre anthology Love, Death + Robots is now back with its second season, giving viewers 8 new beautifully animated shorts. If you’ve seen the first season of the series you know the gist of what to expect: gorgeous and uniquely animated sequences that fall into the categories of science fiction, horror, fantasy, and/or comedy depending on the one you’re viewing. Similarly to the animated adult anthology classic Heavy Metal, Love, Death + Robots is definitely NOT intended for children, having not only adult language, but also its fair share of both gore and sex peppered in throughout some of the stories.
I was a little bummed that we didn’t get as many different stories to dive into like we did for the 18-episode breakout season, but at this point I was just happy to get more at all. Some of the short tales are very serious and others have humor to them. The animation is eerily realistic in some of the shorts to the point that you’ll almost feel like you’re watching something live-action, and then some of the other stories go in a much more stylized art approach that I very much enjoyed. Variety is the spice of life, after all. 🙂 My personal favorites were The Tall Grass, All Through the House, and Automated Customer Service.
I enjoyed watching the second season, but I did miss having more to sink my teeth into like we did with the first season. Hopefully there will be more to come, though! Even though each story is its own self-contained story, I’d highly recommend viewing season 1 if you haven’t already, as there are some really fantastic standout shorts like Sonnie’s Edge, and Three Robots to name a couple.
Have you watched Love, Death + Robots? If so, what were your favorite shorts from it? 🙂 Are you watching any other good Netflix shows or movies currently?
