What a fun ride, from beginning to end. The Mitchells vs. the Machines throws a quirky family of weirdos into a chaotic and hilarious road trip to save the world. Following the classic Man vs. Machine trope, this animated beauty packs a punch, bringing both the laughs and the feels.
Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Eric Andre, Doug the Pug (yes, you read that right), and many more lend their voices to a wide array of characters that I absolutely loved. If you’ve ever spent a lot of time with pugs you’ll immediately appreciate the family dog Monchi for what he is: an adorable and ridiculous creature that sometimes is hard to discern if it is a dog, a pig, or a loaf of bread.
Sony Pictures Animation knocked it out of the park with this one, very much in the way they did with 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, with innovative animation that isn’t afraid to go outside the box, fun and interesting characters, and a plot that provides the perfect balance of humor and heart.
If you’ve not yet seen this movie and could use a good laugh, it is highly recommended! π
I actually started paying attention to Sony animation after Hotel Transylvania came out. I absolutely adored the second movie — little Dennis is just the cutest!
My favorite part about The Mitchells vs The Machines is the way the mom is NEVER not a first-grade teacher. Like, it’s a skin she wears over herself, from her clothes to those stickers she baps on people.

Oooh, haven’t seen Hotel Transylvania yet, so it sounds like that is going to have to be rectified! π
Haha and that is so true about the mom. Her endless supply of star stickers and personality were fantastic. Loved when she went into protective mama bear mode too! π

I enjoyed Hotel Transylvania, but I liked the second one even more! The monsters are getting “older” and modernizing, so it feels like funny commentary on contemporary adults.
