“Two sisters. Two cities. One discovery that will change the world forever. In the cities of Piltover and Zaun, unrest stirs as inventors and thieves, politicians and crime lords chafe against the constraints of a society torn asunder.”
We tend to talk a lot about horror on our blog, but it’s no secret that our other two big loves are science fiction and fantasy. Netflix’s new series, Arcane, which is steeped in the lore and character backgrounds from the massively popular game League of Legends is just a *chef’s kiss* sort of blend of these two genres, and a stunning visual treat on top of everything else it has going for it.
Arcane follows the origin stories of some big hitters from League of Legends, and although many of us cringe at many of the video game adaptations of years past, Arcane is like an exhilarating breath of fresh air in this department. With excellent characters, beautiful animation, exciting worldbuilding and storytelling, it quickly sets the pace for a compelling tale. Acts 1 and 2 are both out already, currently streaming on Netflix, with 3 episodes each. The 3rd act will be released on November 20th with the final episodes of the story. By the end of the first 3 episodes (which we binged our way straight through), my husband and I were hooked. I definitely recommend checking this one out!

Have you watched any of Arcane yet? If so, what did you think, and who are your favorite characters? No spoilers in the comments please. 😉
I’m not a gamer, but when I worked at a library, every Thursday was teen League of Legends night. The library staff who ran the program was so exhausted that these kids never wanted to play anything else, so by default it became LoL night. Must be pretty fun! I assume the game is more story-driven instead of a quest?

Aw, that’s really cool. I love the different activities libraries come up with. When Scream and I used to live in Saline, the local library there did some really cool things like historic cemetery tours, a DIY steampunk jewelry class, and other neat activities for the community. Yeah, LoL is basically big online battles with teams, but Riot Games put a ton of work in to make sure the different “champions” you can fight as all have interesting background information, fun and cool “skins”, and just all around cool lore built around it. They make really cool cinematic videos too, and have even made little bands that are comprised of champions from the game (kind of like how Gorillaz is an animated band). 🙂
