It’s November, so you know what that means: It’s officially Sci-Fi Month! After indulging in as many spooky viewing pleasures as we could squeeze in throughout October, we’re ready to explore the stars, set our lasers to kill, and blast off into a month of science fiction books and movies for the whole month of November!
So, that said, let’s talk sci-fi! What are some of your own favorite books and movies in the genre? To break the ice, we’ll get this party started and share some of our own personal favorites.
SUGAR’S PICKS FOR SCI-FI MOVIES:
John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982)
The City of Lost Children (1995)

It gives me a jolt of ambition too! I don’t always get a lot of sci-fi in the rest of the year despite it being one of my favorite genres. -Scream

For sci-fi movies that scared me, I include Splice, The Thing, The Fly, Pitch Black, The Terminator, and Alien. Really enjoyed some newer sci-fi horror, too: Devil’s Pass, Assimilate, and The Block Island Sound.

I haven’t seen any of those newer ones, but The Thing and Alien are on my favorites list. It’s been a long time since I watch The Terminator. -Scream

I swear I used to see the Terminator in the woods behind my house IN THE DAY LIGHT. It was at the end of the hallway. It was a monster that perforated my life in both the dark and daylight.

And traumatic! Whatever I had nightmares about, I could definitely see in the day. My imagination was over-the-top and almost got me killed on one occasion.

One time I was riding my bicycle up and down the driveway. We lived on a dirt road, so, you know, one of those longer-ish driveways. I was spacing out, just imagining a whole story in my head, as I tend to do, and at one point I forgot to make the turn at the end of the driveway. I went right across the road and into one of those country ditches that are fairly deep and full of water. I seriously missed ALL of that and didn’t stop imagining until I realized I was under water and just looking up. I got out of the ditch, got my bike, went back across the road, and lo and behold, my dad and brother were standing there looking at me with the biggest WTF faces I’ve ever seen in my life.
